Leather & colours
Choose the hide, weight and colour
US buyers often spec leather by weight in ounces, so we list millimetres and ounces side by side. One ounce is 1/64 inch, about 0.4 mm.
| Leather | Thickness | Weight | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cowhide full-grain or top-grain | 1.0–1.2 mm | 2.5–3 oz | Firm and durable, softens with wear | Biker, trucker, vests |
| Lambskin nappa | 0.6–0.8 mm | 1.5–2 oz | Very soft, light drape | Fashion jackets, blazers, women’s styles |
| Goatskin | 0.8–1.0 mm | 2–2.5 oz | Pebbled grain, tough for its weight | Flight and bomber jackets |
| Buffalo | 1.2–1.4 mm | 3–3.5 oz | Heavy and rugged, natural marks | Heavy biker jackets, vests |
| Crazy horse cowhide waxed pull-up | 1.6–2.0 mm | 4–5 oz | Lightens where it flexes, ages fast | Hats, rugged jackets |
| Suede cow or goat | 0.8–1.0 mm | 2–2.5 oz | Brushed, matte nap | Trucker and Western jackets |
| Sheepskin shearling wool inside | 12–18 mm wool | — | Warm and heavy | Aviator and winter jackets |
Finishes
How the surface looks and ages
Aniline
Dyed through with no surface coating. Shows the natural grain and darkens with age.
Semi-aniline
A light protective coat over the dye. More even colour and easier care.
Waxed pull-up
Oil and wax worked into the hide. It lightens where it bends, the look buyers know as crazy horse.
Vintage wash
Hand-rubbed and washed for a broken-in look straight out of the box.
Nubuck and suede
Brushed to a soft nap. Nubuck on the grain side, suede on the flesh side.
